Investing in Dave Koz

In regard to Don Heckman’s review, “Dave Koz Takes the Easy Commercial Path at Strand” (Feb. 22): I attended Koz’s performance and walked away thoroughly impressed by an instrumental performer who had enough regard for his audience to entertain them with his charmingly infectious personality, as well as what I (according to Heckman) wrongly perceived as an abundance of musicianship.
My problem with most instrumental performers is that they seem to be so cerebrally intent on playing every note ever created that I find myself lost and thinking about anything but the music. This was not the case with Koz. His songs were memorable and the solos succinct.
Despite the headline, I’m sure that there is a myriad of sax players struggling desperately to get on that commercial path. I, for one, felt that the show was a thoroughly enjoyable investment of my time and money.
