MEDINA, Ohio — A sheriff’s lieutenant was fired because a jail inmate escaped and rode away in a limousine, the officer’s lawyer said.
Jonathan Merino left the Medina County Jail on Jan. 29 while on an work-release program and arranged for a limousine to pick him up. Merino, facing charges of passing bad checks and forgery, was last seen in Cleveland that day.
Attorney Richard Marco said his client, Lt. John Detchon, plans to appeal his dismissal.
