Superior Industries International Inc., the Van Nuys-based maker of cast aluminum wheels for auto makers, announced two new orders, from Ford and Chrysler, with a total value of about $4.3 million a year.
The Chrysler order, which is valued at about $2 million annually, initially calls for Superior to produce wheels for a Chrysler car built in Mexico for the Mexican market. Superior said this was the first order for the new Chihuahua, Mexico, plant that Superior is currently constructing.
Superior said it has also been awarded a contract to produce a low-pressure mini spare wheel for the Ford Escort and Mercury Tracer. Shipments are expected to begin in June with annual revenues estimated at $2.3 million.
