OUTLOOK

Seven returning starters make up the core of Trabuco Hills’ squad, which finished third behind Laguna Hills and Century last season. Brouwer begins his third season with the Mustangs and believes his team will be right in the middle of the league race. Cervantes is a big, power-hitting first baseman who is headed for USC after his all-league junior year. Anderson and Poe also were second-team picks. Rechner and Beckham should give the Mustangs one of the fastest outfield units in the county. Pitching will be a question mark for Trabuco Hills, which lost staff ace Carey Smith to graduation. Sperling and Pintsak will have to develop and progress if the Mustangs are going to make a run at Laguna Hills. The Mustangs have a difficult nonleague schedule that begins with the Newport Elks tournament. Participating in the tournament are teams such as Capistrano Valley and Mater Dei. The Mustangs open the tournament against Orange, the defending Century League champion. League play begins with a trip to Century on March 18.
