SANTIAGO : Like Father, Like Son

Chile’s President-elect Eduardo Frei, a Christian Democrat, will take office Friday, receiving the same presidential sash used in his father’s inauguration 30 years ago. Frei’s late father, also named Eduardo, was president from 1964 through 1970.
The son, 51, will succeed President Patricio Aylwin, also a Christian Democrat. Frei won election in December to serve as the second civilian president since Gen. Augusto Pinochet relinquished power in 1990, ending a lengthy period of military rule.
