NORTHRIDGE : Decision Delayed on Nickname Change
- Share via
The Associated Student Senate at Cal State Northridge has temporarily tabled a proposed resolution to let students vote on whether to change the school’s nickname.
Rodney Lazar, student body vice president and sponsor of the resolution, wants the college to change its nickname from the Matadors to the Quakes in recognition of Northridge’s new notoriety as an earthquake epicenter.
The senate Tuesday considered whether to include the proposal on student election ballots next month to gauge whether students would support the change. But instead, the senate voted 11 to 6 to postpone a decision until its next meeting next Tuesday, Lazar said. The move to delay a vote came after some senators said they needed more comments from students.
