PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Capistrano Valley’s Late Rally Defeats Orange

Brandon Puffer’s single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in Peter Zamora with the winning run as Capistrano Valley beat Orange, 5-4, in an quarterfinal-round game in the Newport Elks tournament.
Puffer also was the winning pitcher, striking out seven in seven innings. Zamora had three hits, including two doubles and a home run, drove in two runs and scored twice.
Esperanza 16, Newport Harbor 0--Four Esperanza pitchers combined on a one-hitter. Newport Harbor committed eight errors.
In other quarterfinal-round games:
Tustin 9, Mission Viejo 2--Jeff Cunningham had two hits and drove in two runs for host Tustin (4-0).
Mater Dei 2, Saddleback 2 (9, darkness, MD advances on total bases)--Brad Tichurst had a double to the score the tying run in the bottom of the 7th inning for Mater Dei (1-0-1).
In the consolation round:
Trabuco Hills 13, Santa Ana 0--John Lukin had three hits and drove in three runs, Gerry Beckham added two hits and two runs batted for Trabuco Hills (2-2).
In the quarterfinals of the Loara Tournament:
El Dorado 10, Katella 7--Benito Flores had two hits, including a grand slam, for El Dorado (2-0).
Diamond Bar 8, Irvine 4--Tommy Louie, Eric Sobek and Mike Walas had two hits each for Irvine (2-1), which committed five errors. The Vaqueros committed two errors in the sixth, helping Diamond Bar (2-1) score five runs.
Fountain Valley 5, Marina 4--Chris Ponchak hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to win it for Fountain Valley (3-0). He also retired all five batters he faced for his first save.
Loara 4, Ocean View 1--Loara’s Dan Gusman hit a two-run homer for Loara (3-0). Ocean View is 2-1.
In the consolation round of the Loara tournament:
Huntington Beach 3, Santiago 0--Scott Palmer had two triples, scored two runs and drove in another for Huntington Beach (2-1).
La Quinta 5, El Toro 4--Anibal Delacruz singled in the game-winning run with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh for host La Quinta (2-1). Ryan Rutledge had a three-run homer in the first inning for El Toro.
Cypress 15, Pacifica 6--Ray Rios had three hits and scored three runs and Brent Bontuyan had two hits for visiting Cypress (2-1).
Savanna 8, Riverside J.W. North 3--Jeremy Clamp had three hits and drove in two runs for host Savanna (1-2).
Lakewood 11, Sunny Hills 6 (6, darkness)--Josh Hochgesand hit a grand slam for host Sunny Hills (1-2).
University 5, Los Amigos 4--Doug Corrigan had a two-out double and Eric Wei followed with a game-winning single in the seventh for host University. Corringan had four hits and scored two runs.
Servite 4, Anaheim 2--Ross Miedecke struck out 11 and Kevin Krotz hit a first-inning homer to lead Servite (1-1-1).
Villa Park 4, Dana Hills 3 (8)--Matt Parker’s one-out double in the eighth scored Sean McMahon, who had singled to start the inning for visiting Villa Park (2-1). Chris Skogh (1-0) pitched four shutout innings for the victory.
Los Alamitos 8, Western 0--Bill Blackledge hit a home run and drove in three runs and Josh Taylor added two hits and drove in two runs to lead Los Alamitos (2-1).
San Clemente 5, Kennedy 3--Brian Fischer pitched five innings to gain the victory. He also had two hits for San Clemente (2-1). Mike Wood had three RBIs for the Tritons.
Magnolia 6, Downey 5--Fernando Castenada had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs and Josh Reding added two hits and two RBIs to lead Magnolia (1-2).
In the quarterfinals of the El Segundo Tournament:
Brea-Olinda 4, Westlake 3--John Stoddard’s two-out single in the sixth drove in Charlie Heintz with the winning run for Brea (2-1). Stoddard was three for four, with two RBIs.
Edison 8, Simi Valley 1--Jamie Surdock allowed five hits and struck out eight in five innings for the Chargers (3-0). Brice Keyser had three hits and two RBIs and Todd Belitz hit a two-run homer in the first inning for Edison.
In the quarterfinals of the Glendora Tournament:
Fullerton 3, Glendora 1--Matt Sanders had a two-run double in the sixth for Fullerton (4-0). Ryan Golisano (2-0) pitched a four-hitter with nine strikeouts for Fullerton.
In the Oceanside Tournament:
Woodbridge 8, El Camino 0--Chris Talbott and Brian Gorley combined for a no-hitter and Mark Richey had two hits, scored three runs and drove in two for Woodbridge (1-0) in the first round.
