A Cal State Fullerton student program called the Student Leadership Institute has won the 1994 Distinguished Student Development Program Award given by the National Assn. for Campus Activities Educational Foundation.
The award recognizes quality student-development programs at colleges and universities. The Student Leadership Institute, like programs that have won the award in the past, becomes part of a library of model programs to be used by the Commission for Student Development.
The institute program offers workshops that improve leadership skills such as time and stress management, communication skills and how to tackle race and gender issues, according to Nargess Akhavi, a student coordinator for the institute.
About 550 students participated in the different workshops offered by the institute this school year.
