Volunteers Needed for Tree Planting

The city is seeking 50 or more volunteers to help plant 350 trees in Hollydale Park on Saturday.
The tree-planting is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are asked to meet at the south entrance of the park near Century Boulevard, west of Garfield Boulevard. They are encouraged to wear hard-soled shoes, work gloves and hats, and bring shovels and sack lunches. Cold drinks will be provided.
The trees were provided in part through a $327,989 Department of Transportation grant that will fund 2,500 trees throughout the city during the next year. The total planting project will include $112,928 in city funds and about $88,000 in in-kind donations from the county, a city spokeswoman said.
Information: (213) 750-0950.
