Marshall 3, Garfield 0--It took the minimum of three games for defending champion Marshall to eliminate the Bulldogs from a City 3-A semifinal at Marshall on Tuesday.
The scores were 15-1, 15-6, 15-7.
Art Sanchez led Garfield with only eight kills and seven blocks as the Barristers proved to be too powerful for the smaller Bulldogs.
Middle hitter Eli Brueggemann led Marshall with 15 kills, and hitter Jeff Grigsby had eight kills and six blocks. Setter Darry Tse had 38 assists and four aces for the Barristers.
It marked the last home game for Marshall Coach Marji Donatella, who will stay at the school but will pursue other interests. She was the boys coach for six seasons and led them to three consecutive City finals, winning the 3-A title last year.
Garfield finished the season with a record of 13-4; the Barristers improved to 16-0 and advanced to the finals for the third year in row.
