VENTURA : Council to Consider Recycling Changes
- Share via
Ventura residents will get a garbage bin for yard clippings and about $2.18 more a month tacked onto their trash bills under a proposal before the City Council tonight.
Under the proposal, E. J. Harrison & Sons, the city’s refuse hauler, would continue to pick up landfill-destined trash once a week. But refuse workers would pick up recyclables one week and yard clippings the next. Currently, recyclables are picked up weekly.
Trash bills would go up $2.18 per household on average, city officials say, although about one-fourth of residents would actually see a decrease in their fees.
The proposal is supposed to help the city comply with state law requiring reductions in waste sent to landfills.
