Japan’s Overall Trade Surplus Narrows: The Japanese Finance Ministry’s report for August says the shrinkage was the biggest in four years, but the ministry said it is too soon to tell if a trend is developing. The value of exports in excess of imports, measured before seasonal adjustment, dropped 19% last month to the equivalent of $6.08 billion, from $7.49 billion in August, 1993, the ministry said.
