AT&T; Settles Suit by Bell Atlantic and Nynex: AT&T; Corp. has settled an antitrust lawsuit with Bell Atlantic Corp. and Nynex Corp. over the telephone giant’s takeover of McCaw Cellular Communications Inc., the companies said. AT&T;, which was already the nation’s largest supplier of wireless equipment, acquired McCaw for $11.5 billion in September, making it the nation’s biggest provider of wireless services as well. Bell Atlantic and Nynex complained that AT&T; was both the sole supplier of wireless equipment to them and a mighty competitor in providing mobile-calling services. The three agreed on a cost-sharing formula to ensure that AT&T; wireless network equipment will be compatible with other manufacturers’ equipment--a concept known as “open interface.”
