Applications are being accepted from organizations and agencies for Community Development Block Grants.
The city has participated in this program for the past 20 years and receives about $1.6 million a year, said Carol Runzel, city assistant project manager.
Federal guidelines allow the city to spend 20% of the grant money for administration and 55% toward projects and programs by the public and private sectors, Runzel said.
Public and social services projects, such as programs that assist the homeless, seniors and the needy and those that provide child care for low-income individuals, receive 15% of the grant money.
Grant money can also be used for projects to improve neighborhoods and to meet an urgent community development needs.
The remaining 10% of grant money will be set aside as contingency reserves, Runzel said.
Applications are available at the Economic Development Department at City Hall, 2000 Main St. The deadline is Thursday.
