BEIJING : Canada Trade Trip
Seeking to diversify Canada’s trade relationships, Prime Minister Jean Chretien is leading several provincial premiers and business executives on an ambitious mission to Asia. The delegation completes a weeklong stay in China Sunday .
Before returning to Ottawa next week, the Canadian leader will also stop in Indonesia and Vietnam.
Nearly 80% of Canada’s trade is with the United States. Chretien would like to change that and is focused mainly on Asia and Latin America.
Beginning his second year in office, the Canadian leader has yet to make an official visit to Washington, but he will attend the Summit of the Americas in Miami in December.
