COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Orange Coast Wins to Open Tournament

Anthony Porter made three free throws in the final 29 seconds to help Orange Coast secure a 79-76 victory over Chaffey at home Thursday in the first round of the Wendy’s Kiwanis Invitational.
Porter made two free throws with 29 seconds left to put the Pirates ahead, 78-74. Damion Morbley scored 22 points and added 20 rebounds for OCC. He scored 18 points in the first half as OCC opened a 47-38 lead at the break.
Enrico Blandin and Bryan Singleton had 16 each for OCC (5-0). Singleton also had three three-pointers.
In the Golden West men’s Invitational:
Cerritos 80, Cypress 72--The Falcons remained undefeated (8-0) and are the only team to beat the Chargers (5-2) this season. The Falcons defeated Cypress, 96-77, two weeks ago.
Darius Rutledge had 20 points and 19 rebounds for Cerritos. Teammate Kelly Hambrick added 18 points, including five three-pointers. Jeff Cummins led Cypress with 18 points (five three-pointers) and seven rebounds.
Jeff Rutter added 16 points and six rebounds. Cerritos will face Riverside tonight at 6 p.m.
In the first round of the Cuesta women’s basketball tournament:
Orange Coast 80, Consumnes River 51--America Robledo scored 20 points and Jamie Shine added 18 and 10 rebounds for Orange Coast (8-1).
In the Cypress women’s Tournament:
Cypress 101, Mt. San Jacinto 22--Sara Works had 28 points and 12 rebounds for Cypress (2-0). Works made 10 of 19 field-goal attempts. The Chargers made 11 three-point baskets and led, 61-7, at halftime.
Stephanie Werdel added 15 points on five three-pointers for Cypress.
