Msgr. John Cremins; Diocesan Music Director

Msgr. John Cremins, 78, longtime director of music for the Los Angeles Archdiocese. Cremins studied for the priesthood at St. John’s Seminary at Camarillo and was ordained in St. Vibiana’s Cathedral in 1942. He spent most of his career teaching music, primarily in seminaries and novitiates, including Los Angeles College, Mount St. Mary’s College, Immaculate Heart College and St. John’s Seminary. In 1952, he established the National Catholic Music Educational Assn. Cremins also served as pastor of Nativity Church in Torrance and taught at Bishop Amat High School in La Puente. Named a monsignor in 1983, he was affectionately called “The Old Music Maker.” On Dec. 2 in Los Angeles.
