Why Not Fiore Center?
The Civic Arts Plaza Visual Arts Committee chairwoman says she wants people to start thinking of the center as their own (“Art Panel Has Designs on Plaza,” Dec. 18).
We in Thousand Oaks used to think of the center as ours throughout its long development, until it suddenly adopted the name of someone that nobody has heard of. If it must be referred to by somebody’s name, it should be called the Alex Fiore Civic Arts Center.
Former council member Fiore is the one person who unquestionably had the most influence and provided the most support during its development. Nobody is going to call it by that other name and at the same time think of it as one’s own.
