‘Illegal’ Latinos Were Invaluable After Quake
- Share via
Scott Harris’ column on home repairs (Dec. 15) certainly was right on the money for thousands of Valley homeowners, especially since the big quake a year ago.
I and all my friends just don’t know what we would have done without all the “Juans” and “Pedros” waiting to be hired to do our moving, our home repair work and our yard cleanups. There were no union men waiting on the street corners to work, just our “illegal” Latinos, willing to give an honest day’s work for $6 to $10 per hour, depending on the skills involved.
I, for one, am thankful that the harsh provisions of Proposition 187 were not in place. Our recovery from the quake would have been delayed for years without the immigrant workers.
