Funds for Telecasts

All five members of the Board of Supervisors support telecasting its meetings (“Eye That Sees All,” editorial, Dec. 12). However, the question is whether the taxpayers should spend $300,000 annually to subsidize the telecasts. Even before the recent board vote, any cable or broadcast outlet in the county could bring its cameras to the board room for live or taped coverage.
I think it is a mistake to spend the $300,000 on these telecasts. The money would be better spent on the popular Music Center Christmas Program, which has been reduced from 12 hours to three because of budget cuts. Alternatively, the libraries, parks, museums and animal shelters, which have all had to sustain cuts or been in constant jeopardy in recent years, would also have been far more worthy sources.
