A robber escaped with an undisclosed amount of money after threatening to detonate a bomb in a Thousand Oaks savings and loan shortly after noon Thursday.
No one was injured and no bomb was found in or near the American Savings Bank in the Janss Mall at North Moorpark Road and Hillcrest Drive. Witnesses said the robber fled on foot and disappeared behind the Sears store in the mall.
The robber told a teller that he had a bomb in a fanny pack strapped to his waist.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Nagel said the robber was a white male, 5 feet, 10 inches tall with short, brown hair, and was wearing a light plaid shirt and blue jeans.
