A Camarillo woman was shot at Thursday after struggling with a burglar she found ransacking the home of one of her neighbors, authorities said.
According to sheriff’s deputies, the woman, whose name was not released, confronted the burglar after seeing him inside the neighbor’s house in the 1400 block of Gracia Street shortly after noon.
After a brief conversation, the suspect began struggling with the woman who managed to get away. As she ran, the suspect fired a bullet through the door in her direction, authorities said.
The woman escaped unharmed and the suspect fled in the neighbor’s car, authorities said. The stolen vehicle was later found in a nearby parking lot.
Authorities said they believe the suspect found the car keys in the house and that he may have intended to use the vehicle to take property that was found piled inside the home, near the front door.
There were no signs of forced entry to the house, deputies said. Authorities described the suspect as a white man with light brown hair, about 25 years old, 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds.
