A Los Angeles plainclothes police officer was shot by assailants late Friday while investigating two men who were painting gang graffiti on a building in the Mid-City area, police said.
Officer Scott Defoe, 29, who was wounded in the upper lip and right calf, was treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and released Saturday.
The shooting occurred as Defoe and his partner, Kurt Blodgett, 26, vice officers with the LAPD’s Wilshire division, were driving east in an unmarked car on Washington Boulevard near Arlington Avenue, Detective Robert Hauck said.
When the officers slowed their car to investigate the two vandals, a separate group of men fired at them. Defoe was struck in the face, got out of the car and was then shot in the leg, police said.
Blodgett was not injured, police said.
