7 Hurt as Jet Catches Fire

ATLANTA — A DC-9 jet headed for Miami caught fire on takeoff Thursday, forcing all 55 people aboard to evacuate and seriously damaging the plane.
Seven people aboard ValuJet Airlines Flight 597 received minor injuries. The jet had just begun picking up speed for takeoff when the pilot slammed on the brakes, and passengers and crew were evacuated.
