* Re “State to Buy Broadway Site,” June 8:
Finally Gov. Pete Wilson did something right! Moving the state offices into Downtown Los Angeles is the best thing that could happen for the city and the state. If this great city can’t have a strong center, it can’t function efficiently. No strong center means no effective public transit. No effective public transit means more smog, more traffic, fewer trees, worse quality of life.
It looks like the governor will rescue more than just one wonderful old building with this move.
