BREA : Trash Rate Increase to Offset Landfill Costs
- Share via
The City Council has approved an increase in refuse rates for residents and businesses to offset higher charges at the Orange County landfill, officials said.
Under the new fees, the average resident’s bill will increase by $1.58 a month, from $11.84 to $13.42. The monthly bill for most businesses will increase by about $14 a month, from about $88 to about $102.
Higher charges at the county landfill are expected to cost the city an additional $175,000 a year, officials said.
The increase to residents and businesses is expected to raise about $200,000 a year, financial services director Larry Hurst said, to cover the landfill charges and provide some extra cash for street maintenance.
The council approved the action 4 to 0 Tuesday.
