GOLF ROUNDUP : Humphrey Advances in Amateur

Darren Humphrey of Newport Beach defeated San Gabriel’s Steven Grace, 1 up, Wednesday in the first round of match play at the California Golf Assn. State Amateur Tournament at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Humphrey was one of 16, including tournament medalist Mark Johnson of Helendale and defending champion Steve Woods of Upland, advancing to today’s second round.

Jenny Lee of Fullerton trails leader Heather Graff by one shot after the opening round of stroke-play qualifying at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links championship at Hominy Hill Course in Colts Neck, N.J.
Eunice Choi of Dove Canyon is four shots out of the lead after a 77 (35-42) on the 6,004-yard course.
Play continues today, with a second round of stroke play.
