There’s No Bad Call in Montreal as Agassi Beats Tarango, 6-3, 6-4

MONTREAL — Defending champion and top-seeded Andre Agassi struggled in both sets at the $1.795-million Canadian Open Wednesday but finally scored a 6-3, 6-4 victory over fellow American Jeff Tarango in a match interrupted by rain.

Agassi, who last week won his first title since reaching the No. 1 ranking, started the match slowly. He was down a break at 2-1 when the rain arrived.

Returning to the court two hours later, Agassi quickly evened the score at 2-2 when the 74th-ranked Tarango, who walked out during a match at Wimbledon after a dispute with an umpire, double-faulted on break point.

Agassi cruised to a 5-1 lead in the second set, but Tarango refused to fold. He won the next three games, breaking serve at 15-40 in the eighth game when Agassi hit a forehand long.
