After a flood of complaints from small businesses about a change in the annual license tax, the City Council has made revisions to correct what it says was an error.
The recently adopted change was supposed to reduce the business license tax for many small enterprises. But, because of the way the ordinance was worded, many merchants were hit with huge tax bills.
One coin laundry owner who had been paying about $300 a year saw her assessment rise to more than $2,500 because she was charged an extra $50 for each of her washing machines.
At its meeting this week, the council said it will continue to work with businesses to correct the situation.
