Local Bid to Buy Arena Team on Hold

The Las Vegas Sting has been granted a 30-day extension to decide the future of its Arena Football League franchise, putting on hold a bid by a group of Orange County businessmen who have made an offer to buy and bring it to The Pond of Anaheim.
Pete Gibson, majority owner of the Sting, told the Las Vegas Sun newspaper that the league office has given him until Sept. 30 to decide whether he will sell or move the team.
The league had originally set a deadline of Thursday for a decision.
Roy Englebrecht, who heads the Orange County group, said he remains interested in bringing arena football to The Pond.
“We would like to make it happen, but it’s still up to the league,” Englebrecht said. “I know The Pond would like to have arena football as a tenant.”
The other franchises are Albany, N.Y., Iowa, Memphis, Milwaukee, Miami, Orlando, Tampa Bay, Arizona, St. Louis, San Jose, Charlotte and Connecticut.
