VENTURA : Party to Raise Funds for Police Substation
- Share via
A group of attorneys and downtown merchants is hosting a mixer and fund-raiser to boost the Ventura Police Department’s plan to open a storefront substation by the end of this year.
The event will be held Friday at 87 N. Chestnut St. in downtown Ventura. Admission is free, but a minimum donation of $5 is requested. Wines and hors d’oeuvres will be provided.
Police officials want to open the department’s fourth storefront location somewhere in the downtown area. Doing so will allow officers to patrol the beach promenade and downtown on bicycles and better interact with residents and merchants.
Other storefront substations are located at the Ventura Harbor, the Ventura Avenue area and Montalvo. Organizers are still looking for a location for the downtown storefront, which they hope to open on California or Main streets.
The fund-raiser is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, call (805) 652-1434.
