NORTH HOLLYWOOD — North Hollywood police continued their search Saturday for a 41-year-old man who has been missing from his parents’ Sun Valley home since Thursday morning.
Apolonio Contreras, who has been living in the United States for a month, was last seen at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Vineland Avenue and San Fernando Road.
Police said witnesses spotted Contreras early Saturday morning near North Hollywood Park.
Relatives said Contreras, a former farm laborer from Mexico, has a drinking problem and suffers from depression.
Contreras speaks only Spanish and answers to the nickname “Polo,” police said. He is 5-foot-6, weighs about 175 pounds and has black hair and dark brown eyes. Contreras was last seen wearing black shoes, brown pants and a white shirt.
Police set up a command post near Contreras’ parents’ home on the 6400 block of Vineland Avenue. The local Neighborhood Watch and People In Progress, a Sun Valley-based substance abuse rehabilitation center, also are assisting the police.
Anyone with information is asked to call North Hollywood police at (818) 756-8822.
