Herb Benham’s tribute to country musician Buck Owens was long overdue and welcome (“The Buck Stops in Bakersfield,” Aug. 13). Owens has been an important and influential West Coast performer whose contributions to American music have been considerable. Others in the limelight may have overshadowed this man, but to me, no one has ever matched the sound of that wonderful Buck Owens Bakersfield shuffle.
