ANNIVERSARY: Instead of taking a bow, youngsters with the Burke Aquatic Foundation took a dive and showed off their competitive swimming skills Wednesday in Carson to mark the first anniversary of the program designed to make water sports more accessible to inner-city residents.
County Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke launched the $100,000 foundation last year with help from Toyota Motor Sales USA and other sponsors. The program at Victoria Regional Park swimming pool offers swimming lessons, senior aquatic aerobics and the chance to swim competitively. Over the last several months, the foundation’s swim team has competed in several meets, winning five.
