Canyon’s McKeon Out Six Weeks With Injury

One day after Canyon High lost to Crespi, 21-10, in a nonleague football game, the Cowboys (1-2) received more bad news.
A broken right collarbone will sideline Canyon running back Monte McKeon for up to six weeks.
McKeon, a junior, was injured at the end of a 19-yard run in Friday night’s loss. An X-ray Saturday confirmed the break.
“It’s just big-time frustration,” McKeon said. “I felt like the game was just picking up for me.”
McKeon, a starter, is Canyon’s second-leading rusher behind quarterback Ahjeron Palmer.
McKeon, who is averaging 6.3 yards a carry, has gained 165 yards in 26 carries. He rushed for more than 1,300 yards for the junior varsity last season.
Tommie Smith, an Antelope Valley High graduate who was 1988 USA Today state high school player of the year, returned a pass interception 44 yards for a touchdown to help the San Antonio Texans trounce the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 45-7, Saturday night in a Canadian Football League game at San Antonio.
San Antonio (8-5) has won four consecutive games and six of eight to take sole possession of second place in the CFL’s Southern Division.

Emilee Klein of Studio City shot a two-over par 72 Saturday in the $525,000 LPGA Heartland Classic in St. Louis and is four over after three rounds.
The 21-year-old Klein, who went to USC and is the tour’s youngest player, is tied for 12th place with six others at 220.
Annika Sorenstam of Sweden is leading the pack at 206, 10 strokes ahead of Robin Walton, Jan Stephenson, Mitzi Edge and Pat Hurst, who are tied for second at even par.
