Orange Coast, Sophomore
Cross-Country
It has been a battle for Orange Coast Coach Gordie Fitzel to convince Hancock, from Newport Harbor High, that he is a cross-country runner and not just a track athlete staying in shape in the fall. Last spring, Hancock was one of the best 800 and 1,500 runners around, finishing third in each event at the State meet. But Hancock is having a solid cross-country season thus far. He finished sixth in a field of about 130 at the Crystal Spring Invitational Saturday in San Mateo.
