Day Runner Inc.: The Irvine manufacturer of organizers and planners posted net income of $3.2 million, or 49 cents a share, for the first quarter of fiscal 1996, up 68% from the $1.9 million, or 30 cents a share, for the corresponding quarter last year. Sales for the quarter ended Sept. 30 increased 5% to $32.8 million from $31.3 million.
