Nebraska running back Lawrence Phillips can stay in school although he is being disciplined for attacking his ex-girlfriend, a university official said. The decision might lead to Phillips’ return to the Cornhuskers. Coach Tom Osborne has said that could happen once the university completes the disciplinary process.

Washington State linebacker James Darling was arrested for investigation of drunken driving after a one-car accident and has been suspended from the team, Cougar Coach Mike Price said. Darling lost control of his vehicle on a Pullman, Wash., city street early Monday while returning from Spokane, Price said. Darling was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
