From Times Wire Reports
Six people have died and about 100 more have become ill after eating shellfish contaminated by a “red tide” that has hit the coast around the beach resort of Acapulco, officials said. Two children reportedly were among the six victims over the past nine days. Authorities have barred seafood fishing in the state of Guerrero. The victims ate the infected shellfish at their homes. Red tide is caused by growth of a plankton that produces a toxin, which contaminates shellfish.
