UCI Players Advance at Tennis Regional

IRVINE — Nina Basica and Leah Fisher of UC Irvine advanced to the singles and doubles main draw in the Southern California Women’s Tennis Regional Wednesday at UC Irvine.

In the second round of qualifying in singles, Basica beat Shana Gray of UCLA, 6-2, 6-4, and Fisher won, 6-2, 6-2, against UC Santa Barbara’s Kristin Gilmore. They won their doubles match against Aida Orejel and Sinta Tirtandi of Long Beach State, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.

Also advancing were Cal State Fullerton’s doubles teams of Brooke Lacey and Kara Kolb and Nicole Price and Denise Wilson. Lacey and Kolb beat Simone Bock and Celia Bristow of New Mexico, 6-2- 6-2, and Price and Wilson defeated Barbara San Juan and Anne Marie Borah of Cal State Northridge, 6-2, 6-0.

Kolb and teammate Jennifer Canfield did not advance in singles. Mary Morr, Jeanette Ashbrooke and Patty Villaroman failed to advance for UC Irvine.
