Sweet, Conyers Lead Chapman Past Redlands

Monique Sweet scored 20 points and Alana Conyers added 15 as Chapman defeated Redlands, 85-82, Saturday night in the finals of the Redlands basketball tournament at Currier Gym.
The Panthers (6-6) shot 72% (18-25) in the second half to hold off Redlands. Sweet was named to the all-tournament team.
Flo Luppani had 11 points, eight assists and made three three-pointers for Chapman. Stef McNamara added 14 points for Chapman.
In another nonconference women’s basketball game:
Concordia 70, Occidental 64--Melissa Ridge scored 27 points to lead visiting Concordia (10-4). Teammate Angela Sather scored 10 points and had eight rebounds. Sather also had five steals.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Concordia 98, Wisconsin Lutheran 82--Pharoah Jones made nine of nine field goals and finished with 22 points for Concordia (11-4). Tarik James scored 24 points and Danny Barajas added 16 points and 10 assists.
At the UC Irvine swimming invitational:
Two UC Irvine swimmers finish second--Gabby Garcia and Amerie Nordberg each finished second for the Anteaters as the UC Irvine swimming invitational continued at Heritage Park. Garcia finished second in the women’s 50 freestyle with a time of 24.85. Nordberg finished in 1:08.13 in the 100 breaststroke.
