In nonconference men’s basketball:
Southern California College 99, UC San Diego 78--Kevin Carlson scored 28 points, making 10 of 10 free throws, for the host Vanguards (17-10), who led 46-36 at the half. Eric Walker had 18 points for SCC. San Diego is 10-13.
In nonconference women’s tennis:
Southern California College 6, Cal State Los Angeles 3--Quynh Le, Star Connolly, Cathy Binnquist and Amy Tate won their singles sets and help SCC (4-1) to victory.
In doubles, Le and Wendy Andel teamed to beat Cal State Los Angles’ Elvia Monroy and April Saulter, 6-3, 6-0. Connolly and Binnquist won in No. 2 doubles, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, for SCC.
UCLA 7, UC Irvine 0--Former Corona del Mar standout Keri Phebus beat UCI’s Leah Fisher, 6-0, 6-2, and Brandi Freudenberg, formerly of El Modena, defeated Mary Morr, 6-1, 6-0, for the Bruins, ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division I.
