From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Both sides wrapped up testimony in the murder trial of John C. Salvi III, charged with killing two abortion clinic workers, after a psychologist said he was capable of faking mental illness. Salvi is more intelligent than tests have suggested, said Dr. Joel Haycock, a prosecution witness. Salvi’s attorneys admit he was the gunman in the Dec. 30, 1994, attacks on two clinics in Brookline, Mass., but say he was insane. Prosecutors argue Salvi was sane and motivated by extreme antiabortion views.
