Bill Robertson Named Interim Leader of Labor Group: The executive secretary treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor for 18 years until retiring in 1993 has been chosen to return to the post on an interim basis. Robertson is expected to fill in for two months until a permanent successor is found for the late union chief James M. Wood, who died last month of cancer at the age of 51. Miguel Contreras, who was Wood’s top deputy and holds the title of political director of the county federation, is the only announced candidate for the permanent job as executive secretary treasurer. If chosen, he would be the first nonwhite or Latino chief of the county federation, the nation’s second-largest local labor council.
