Nation IN BRIEF : ARKANSAS : Trial Takes Toll on Clinton’s Ex-Partner

James B. McDougal, who was President Clinton’s Whitewater investment partner, appeared to grow sick and weak during his trial in Little Rock, Ark., on conspiracy and fraud charges. Attorney Sam Heuer said that “fatigue and stress” caused by the trial have intensified McDougal’s health problems. McDougal, who is manic-depressive, also suffers from blocked arteries. Earlier in the day, Judge George Howard excused an alternate juror, Barbara Adams. She had granted a TV interview explaining why she came to court daily in a “Star Trek” costume.
