Sun Microsystems, Hughes Win $956-Million U.S. Order: The two companies will share the Air Force order for computer workstations. Mountain View, Calif.-based Sun Microsystems Inc. and General Motors Corp.’s Hughes division in Los Angeles will provide workstations, software and attachments, and will maintain that equipment until March 2003, the Air Force said. The Air Force expects to purchase 37,000 workstations. The equipment will be used for command and control functions, as well as scientific, engineering and logistics activities at bases worldwide. The companies will compete, probably on an annual basis, for portions of the total order. How much of the order’s total value going to each company has yet to be determined.
