Long Beach State Beats Pacific

Long Beach State rallied for four runs in the eighth inning to beat Pacific, 11-9, in a Big West Conference baseball game Sunday at Blair Field in Long Beach.
Pacific’s Ramy Dickinson hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth to give the Tigers a 9-7 lead.
But Long Beach was able to tie it in the bottom of the inning on a run-scoring single by Jason Knupfer.
The go-ahead run came on a ground out by Will Skett. Ryan Brannan (3-0) got the victory in relief for Long Beach. He worked the final three innings, giving up five runs, all unearned, and also had three strikeouts.
The victory keeps Long Beach (21-12, 6-0) in a first-place tie with Cal State Fullerton. Pacific is 17-13, 0-6).
In the UCI/Marriott men’s tennis tournament:
Middle Tennessee 5, UC Irvine 2--Middle Tennessee, ranked 23rd in the nation, beat No. 24 UC Irvine in the championship match.
Marc Tardif of UC Irvine beat Fred Meimeyer, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Thomas Bohun beat David McNamara, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4 singles for UC Irvine (12-6).
Middle Tennessee (12-4) also won two of three doubles matches to earn the final point of the match.
