NORTH HOLLYWOOD — An unidentified man was killed Saturday when the car he was driving--which was reported stolen--slammed into a guardrail near the Victory Boulevard exit of the Hollywood Freeway, ending a nearly 15-mile police chase.
No one else was injured in the accident, which began as an attempted traffic stop in Hollywood about 9:10 a.m., police said.
After eluding officers, the man sped onto the freeway heading north, police said. He was trying to exit at Victory Boulevard in North Hollywood when he lost control of the car, which slammed into the guardrail and burst into flames. The guardrail impaled the car and struck the man in the head, said Sgt. Ward Jenkins of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the black Toyota Camry he was driving had been reported stolen to the sheriff’s station at Norwalk.
