John A. Olcovich Jr., the owner of the Rudder Room Cocktail Lounge on Hollywood Beach in Oxnard, has died. He was 45.
Olcovich, a native of Redlands, died Thursday.
He moved to Port Hueneme in 1972 to work as an engineer at the Naval Ship Missile Systems Engineering Station. After 11 years there, Olcovich became his own boss, opening the Rudder Room in Hollywood Beach with its view of the sea and Santa Cruz and Anacapa islands.
His brother, George, said that although John Olcovich was “a private person” who enjoyed solitary beach walks, he opened up his cocktail lounge, where he exchanged stories with patrons.
Olcovich is survived by his father, John A. Olcovich Sr. of Camarillo; two brothers, George Olcovich of Camarillo and James P. Olcovich of Torrance; and a sister, Teresa L. McMann of Oxnard.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Rudder Room.
