Bubb Bounces Back List of Basketball Coaches

NORTHRIDGE — A list of top candidates for the post as Cal State Northridge’s men’s basketball coach, submitted by a school selection committee, has been rejected by Athletic Director Paul Bubb.
“I have asked the committee to do some more work,” Bubb said. “There were some factors they didn’t consider.”
Bubb said candidates who applied for the job Friday--the final day the application process was open--had not been considered.
“I think it’s important that we review all the applications and there were some applicants that [Bubb] would like us to consider that we weren’t aware of,” said Northridge women’s basketball Coach Michael Abraham, the chairman of the selection committee.
Bubb said he hoped to release a list with a maximum of five finalists after the committee’s next meeting, which is scheduled for Thursday. Bubb said he wanted to begin interviews next week and have a coach hired by May 1.
A source close to the selection process said five coaches were among those submitted as top candidates by the committee: Mike Miller, coach at L.A. City College; Bobby Braswell, an assistant at Oregon; Bobby Castagna, an assistant at UC Santa Barbara; Mark Bernson, an assistant at New Mexico State; and Percy Carr, coach at San Jose City College.
The school last month did not renew the contract of Pete Cassidy, the Matadors’ coach for 25 seasons.
